Abstract

Small cell carcinomas represent less than 1% of salivary gland malignant tumors. Because these are very rare cases, there is no consensus about the epidemiology and treatment. A 78 years old female was referred because of a one-month history of a left parotid gland mass. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated parotid mass in association with a pathological cervical lymphadenopathy. Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) showed carcinoma. After superficial parotidectomy and functional neck dissection, the final pathology report evidenced small cell carcinoma with neck metastasis. Another primary tumor origin was ruled out and it was concluded that it was a primary small cell carcinoma of the parotid gland.
