Avaliação do desempenho de crianças portadoras de surdez congénita com mais de 15 anos de uso implante coclear

Objectivos: O trabalho pretendeu verificar se o implante coclear (IC) possibilita ao utilizador a aquisição de comunicação audio-oral e se é seguro e fiável a longo prazo.
Material e Métodos: Amostra composta por 2 grupos. Grupo 1: ≥ 15 anos IC; Grupo 2: entre 10 e 14 anos IC. Os dois grupos efectuaram os testes de avaliação do Serviço descritos nos resultados.
Resultados: o benefício tonal revelou diferença estatisticamente significativa nas frequências de 250 Hz; o benefício vocal apresenta diferença estatisticamente significativa nas intensidades de 30, 60, 70 e 80 dB SPL; não se encontrou diferença estatisticamente significativa nos: monossílabos, números, frases, frases ao telefone, 100 palavras ao telefone e vogais; as consoantes, as 100 palavras, as DPM e a articulação revelaram diferença estatisticamente significativa.
Discussão e Conclusão: Os resultados poderão estar relacionados com: a redução da idade de implantação, o progresso tecnológico, o melhor acompanhamento da terapia da fala e escolar das crianças implantadas. A técnica é segura, fiável e eficaz a longo prazo.
