Objectives: to perform the translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of “Rastreamento de Alterações Vocais em Idosos – RAVI” to portuguese of Portugal.
Study Design: Observational and cross-sectional study.
Material and Methods: Assessment of RAVI and Voice Handicap Index scores for patients aged ≥ 65 years: 30 patients with and 30 patients without complaints of dysphonia.
Results: In the group without complaints of dysphonia there was a correlation between the RAVI score and VHI statistically significant and strong (r = 0.76, p <0.001); in the group with dysphonia there was also a correlation between RAVI and VHI statistically significant and strong (r = 0.63, p <0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in the means of RAVI questionnaire between the group with and without complaints of dysphonia (p <0.05).
Conclusions: The Portuguese version of the RAVI questionnaire is a valid voice self-assessment tool designed specifically for the geriatric population and for epidemiological and clinical purposes.
