Abstract

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) recently published the 4th edition of the Classification of Head and Neck Tumors with several updates in the categorization of sinonasal tumors.

Objectives: To perform a critical review of emerging sinonasal entities and discuss the updates of the classification. To summarize the main implications of it in clinical practice.

Material and methods: Comprehensive review in PubMed database on the new sinonasal tumors until May 2020.

Results: This review describes the presentation, imaging, histopathology, treatment and prognosis of newly described or recently evolving sinonasal tumors. It includes NUT carcinoma, SMARCB1-deficient carcinoma, HPV-related adenoid cystic carcinoma, respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma, seromucinous hamartoma, biphenotypic sinonasal sarcoma and chondromesenchymal hamartoma.

Conclusions: Some of the updates are still subject to intense study and discussion and therefore susceptible to change, while others may come to determine changes in the paradigms of diagnosis and treatment of these patients.
