Abstract

Aims: Assess the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and sudden hearing loss.

Study design: Clinical case and literature review

Material and Methods : Description of 2 clinical cases of acute hearing loss associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, observed in a medical appointment at Beatriz Ângelo Hospital. The authors made a revision of the already existing cases in literature, through a research made on Pubmed and Embase, with the keywords “Sudden hearing loss”, “Sensorioneural hypoacusis”, “SARS-CoV-2”, “COVID-19”, “Coronavirus”.

Results and Conclusion: There is a significant number of cases of sudden hearing loss in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The acknowledgement of this nonspecific manifestation of COVID-19 is important to consider testing for SARS-CoV-2 in patients who present sudden hearing loss and thus possibly prevent the spread of the virus.
