Abstract

Pott´s puffy tumor is an uncommon complication that results from frontal sinusitis. It consists of osteomyelitis of the frontal bone and sub periosteal abscess. Intracranial extension may occur, causing meningitis, empyema, cerebral abscess and venous sinus thrombosis. Undiagnosed or partially treated frontal sinusitis can lead to Pott's puffy tumor.

Early diagnosis and aggressive medical or surgical treatment are essential for optimal recovery of affected patients. We present a case of Pott's puffy tumor in a 11-year-old boy, as a complication of acute pansinusitis, with intracranial involvement, this case is even more unusual. The findings at computed tomography provided the key to the diagnosis in this patient.
