Abstract

Foreign bodies in the nose are frequent in emergency service. They are usually innocuous. Button batteries represent an exception; they are very aggressive and must be removed quickly. The purpose of this article is too share a case, which represent a good example of the complications associated to a short presence of a button battery in the nose. The foreign body has been removed 4 hours after introdution. Despite all the general cares and antibiotherapy a septal perforation occurred. Scientific publications present more than 50% septal perforations. In all cases of nasal foreign body, batteries must be excluded in first approach. After the confirmation or high suspicion of the existence of a button battery in the nose, the patient must be immediately referred to an otolaryngologist emergency department for a diagnostic confirmation and faster resolution.
