Osteoma is the commonest benign tumour of the paranasal sinuses. It’s a slow growing tumour, mostly asymptomatic. Becomes symptomatic when obstructs the drainage pathways of the sinus or leads to compression/invasion of the surrounding structures. The commonest presenting symptom of osteoma is frontal headache or facial pain. Surgical treatment is reserved for some situations. With the advance in endoscopic sinus surgery there has been a trend toward removal of frontal osteomas endoscopically. The extranasal approach nevertheless remains an important part of frontal sinus osteoma surgery.
We report a case of a 37 years old man with left eyelid ptosis as the first symptom of a giant osteoma of the frontal sinus, that underwent osteoplastic flap surgery for removal.
We briefly review the literature about the different surgical approaches.
