Abstract

Introduction: Sudden deafness in most cases remains as an entity of unknown cause, although infectious, vascular and immune causes have been proposed.

Objectives: To study the relationship between the acute phase reaction in peripheral blood as an expression of transient cerebral ischemia in idiopathic sudden deafness.

Methods: Performing exploration ENT, tympanogram, audiometry, blood count, cranial MRI and neurological report.

Results: The acute phase inflammatory reaction is manifested as an increase in the rate of neutrophil / lymphocyte which appears 48-72 hours after the onset of sudden deafness.

Conclusions: The study shows that there is an acute phase inflammatory reaction in sudden deafness. On the other hand, the increased rate of neutrophil / lymphocyte discards the viral origin of sudden deafness. This knowledge and its objective determination help the understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of sudden deafness.
