Abstract

With the increasing incidence of paediatrics sinusitis and as sinus endoscopic surgery takes on a growing significance in this age group, the importance of anatomic variants as etiologic factors raises. We present two clinical cases of acute sinusitis orbital complications which show the importance of middle turbinate anatomical variants and management. A 12 year-old boy with a subperiosteal abscess in the superior orbital complicating an acute sinusitis was submitted to endoscopic sinus surgery needing antero-inferior resection of paradoxal middle turbinate. A 13 year-old girl with acute sinusitis complicated with medial orbit subperiosteal abscess was submitted to resection of the lateral lamella of a big concha bullosa during the endoscopic drainage of the orbital abscess.
