Abstract

The assessment of auditory processing disorder through behavior testing includes the use of monotic and dichotic tests with verbal and non-verbal sounds. In order to present the verbal test, it is important to select an appropriate voice quality, regarding not only the tone quality but also the vocal inflection used in the local culture. The aim of this study is to produce and validate two verbal tests in European Portuguese: the Speech in Noise Test (SN) and the Dichotic Digit Test (DD). After the vocal assessment of 13 subjects, a woman that respected the characteristics of a good voice was selected. Using this female voice, the SN and DD tests where produced in European Portuguese. After validation, these tests were shown to be suitable for application in evaluation studies of auditory processing disorders.
