Abstract

Objectives: Evaluation of indications for Videonystagmography and Posturography and its respective limitations.

Material and methods: Uterature revision and clinical practice.

Results and conclusions: Vestibular system dysfunction causes significant life quality compromise, so its diagnostic study is very important, although sometimes underestimated.

Although there are more elaborated diagnostic exams, we should not forget how important anamneses and physical exam are, because Videonystagmography and Posturography are very unspecific, helping in the diagnosis of vertigo and instability, but they cannot identify specific aetiologies. Overuse of these tests is today a problem in health costs, being so expensive tests, imposing the need for guidelines.
