Abstract

We report a retrospective study of the per and post-surgical complica t ions of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, during 2003 at the HGSA ENT service. The clinical files of 153 patients were reviewed, 73 (48%) females, 80 (52%) males, aged 18 months to 44 years old (average 10,95 years).

The following complications were found: bleeding 21153; rinolalia 21153; palatal incompetence 11153; fever 111153; uvulael palatal oedema 1 1153; tonsil remains 2/118.

Due to the low rate of complications, quickness of execution and low cost, the classical technique of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy is the HGSA ENT service's preference compa red with other newer techniques.
