Abstract

Acquired cervical swelling is a common pathology that often motivates observation by Otorhinolaryngology. Its differential diagnosis is complex and encompasses inflammatory, infectious and neoplastic pathology. Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is a benign and self-limited disease, rare in the Portuguese population. The diagnosis is unique and implies a high level of suspicion. The authors describe the case of a female patient who searched medical care due to a painful cervical swelling, with 6 days of evolution, without response to the treatment. Diagnostic challenge and treatment options are addressed. Keywords: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease; Necrotizing histiocytic lymphadenitis; cervical adenopathy; cervical swelling.
