Resumo

 

 O nariz é uma estrutura central para a harmonia da face. A maior parte do desenvolvimento do nariz e da face ocorre durante a embriogénese, entre as 4 e as 8 semanas. Apesar deste processo ocorrer em larga medida no início da embriogénese, o nariz do neonato é em vários aspetos diferente do nariz do adulto, dado que irão ocorrer alterações significativas da cartilagem septal, cartilagens laterais superiores, pirâmide nasal e terço médio da face ao longo do crescimento da criança. Além disso, as estruturas que compõem o nariz também sofrem alterações degenerativas. Os autores propõem-se rever e sistematizar os mecanismos subjacentes ao crescimento do nariz, sublinhando as implicações que estes têm para a cirurgia nasal.
