Eficácia da uvulopalatofaringoplastia: Estudo restrospectivo

Resumo

A roncopatia é um distúrbio comum na população geral, sendo a prevalência de síndrome de apneia obstrutiva do sono (SAOS), entre ressonadores, de pelo menos 10%.

Os autores apresentam uma revisão de 35 doentes do seu serviço seleccionados para uvulopalatofaringoplastia (UPPP) entre 2001 e 2006. Os resultados cirúrgicos são avaliados comparando os parâmetros da polissonografia (PSG) pré e pós-cirurgia e, subjectivamente, através de um questionário protocolado pelo serviço.

Foram estudados 35 doentes (83% do sexo masculino e 17% do sexo feminino) com índice de apneia-hipopneia (IAH) médio pré-cirurgia de 22,9±17,6 eventos/hora. A percentagem de cura após UPPP foi de 33%, pelos critérios de cura de Sher. Não houve diferença significativa entre o IAH médio pré e pós-cirurgia. Quanto à avaliação subjectiva a longo-prazo, 68% dos doentes mantinham diminuição da roncopatia, 61% referiam diminuição da sonolência diurna e 56% do número de apneias nocturnas presenciadas pelo cônjuge.

A falta de correlação entre os resultados avaliados pela PSG e os resultados subjectivos percepcionados pelo doente, salienta a necessidade de seguimento destes doentes, com repetição do estudo do sono.
